BRITISH COLUMBIA CAR CRASH KILLS ELDERLY WOMAN ON SCOOTER

Michael Golden Law Corporation June 25, 2014

A three-vehicle crash involving a commercial truck and two other vehicles took the life of an elderly woman riding on a power-operated mobility scooter on June 24 in Port Moody, according to the Port Moody police inspector. The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ioco Road and Ungless Way. Reports say that the woman, 71, was riding her scooter with her daughter by her side when three vehicles collided at the intersection. One of the vehicles struck the elderly woman, killing her.

The commercial truck flipped on its side as the result of the accident, which also took down a street light. At least two people were injured and taken to hospital although the extent of their injuries is unknown. A total of seven ambulances were called to the scene. Ioco Road was closed for several hours between Ravine and Newport drives while the accident was investigated and damaged vehicles were removed. Reports do not indicate exactly what caused the accident or if any charges will be filed.

When a person is injured as the result of an accident, the victim may be left with pain and may suffer financial losses, especially if the victim is unable to return to work. Physical therapy is often necessary, and long-term care is sometimes needed. When an accident is the result of negligence, a victim may be able to seek compensation by filing a personal injury claim.

If an accident results in death, as is the case with the elderly woman, the victim’s family may want to consider filing a wrongful death claim. In such a situation, a person may wish to consult with a lawyer who could help them file the claim and represent them in the legal proceedings.
